The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems provides high-quality education to students for successful careers in both computer science as well as information systems. The faculty, consisting of ten full-time professors and lecturers, are committed to excellence in teaching and to providing an outstanding educational experience for its students. While enjoying small-sized classes, students will also find an up-to-date curriculum that offers a wide range of relevant and interesting courses.
Our department offers two Bachelor of Science degrees, namely, a BS in Computer Science as well as a BS in Information Systems. In addition to these, the department also offers two minor concentrations: one in Computer Science and one in Web Application Development.
Coastal originally received approval to offer a BS in Computer Science in the Spring of 1985. Initially, the Computer Science Department was a part of the School of Mathematics and Computer Services and then two years later became a part of the College of Business Administration. Today, the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems resides in the College of Science.
Our BS in Computer Science has been fully accredited by ABET/CAC since Fall 2003, when the department received an initial six-year accreditation; the maximum allowed in any given single accreditation cycle. Then in Fall 2009, the department received another six-year accreditation in Computer Science. Since that time, the faculty have been working to accredit the BS in Information Systems and plan to apply for initial consideration in 2014.
