The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems provides high-quality education to students for successful careers in both computer science as well as information systems. The faculty, consisting of ten full-time professors and lecturers, are committed to excellence in teaching and to providing an outstanding educational experience for its students. While enjoying small-sized classes, students will also find an up-to-date curriculum that offers a wide range of relevant and interesting courses.
Our department offers two Bachelor of Science degrees, namely, a BS in Computer Science as well as a BS in Information Systems. In addition to these, the department also offers two minor concentrations: one in Computer Science and one in Web Application Development.
Coastal originally received approval to offer a BS in Computer Science in the Spring of 1985. Initially, the Computer Science Department was a part of the School of Mathematics and Computer Services and then two years later became a part of the College of Business Administration. Today, the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems resides in the College of Science.
The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program has been accredited
by the ABET Computing Accreditation Commission.
Our Bachelor of Science - Theoretical Track has been accredited since 2003 (initial accreditation in 2003; re-accreditation in 2009). We have our next re-accreditation visit scheduled for the fall of 2014 for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program. We are also being evaluated for initial accreditation of the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems degree program in the fall of 2014.
